IND vs BAN: Virat Kohli Goes Past Ricky Ponting in Elite List as he Scores 72nd International Century

After smashing his 71st international cricket three months back, former India captain Virat Kohli finally managed to end his 3-year-long ODI century drought with an 85-ball hundred against Bangladesh during the third ODI between the two countries at the ZAC stadium in Chittagong.

With this, Kohli surpassed Ricky Ponting in the list of batters with the most international centuries. This is Kohli’s 72nd century in international cricket and he is now placed second in the elite list behind Sachin Tendulkar, who has 100 tons to his name in international cricket.

This is his 44th century in One-Day Internationals. Kohli is now just 5 centuries away from equalling Sachin Tendulkar’s record of most centuries in the fifty-over format. Notably, the legendary Mumbai batter has 49 Centuries to his name in ODIs.

Kohli’s flamboyant knock was studded with 11 fours and 2 towering sixes as he stitched a 290-run partnership with Ishan Kishan for the third wicket, who also created the record for the fastest double century in the ODIs.

Kishan smashed 210 runs off just 131 balls before getting caught at the boundary on Taskin Ahmed’s ball in the 35th over. Thanks to his double century and Virat Kohli’s belligerent hundred, team India posted a mammoth total of 409 runs on board in the stipulated 50 overs.
