IND vs ENG: Ravindra Jadeja Gets Joe Root Out for Record 13th Time

Ravindra Jadeja dismissed Joe Root for the 5th time in ODIs.

India’s star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja once again proved to be a nightmare for England batter Joe Root, dismissing him for the fifth time in ODIs. The incident took place during the second ODI between India and England at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack on Sunday, February 9.

After England opted to bat first, Root played a steady knock, bringing up his 40th ODI fifty. He was looking set for a big score but fell while attempting to loft Jadeja over long-off. Instead, he ended up handing a catch to Virat Kohli near the boundary, walking back after scoring 69 off 72 balls.

This was the second time in the series that Jadeja got the better of Root, having trapped him lbw for 19 in the first ODI in Nagpur. With this dismissal, Jadeja has now equalled New Zealand pacer Trent Boult in dismissing Root the most times in ODIs (five times).

Root has struggled against Jadeja across formats, falling to him 13 times in international cricket. Only Australia’s Pat Cummins has dismissed the England batter more times (14). In ODIs, Root has a strike rate of 85.71 against Jadeja, who has kept him quiet with an average of 25.20.

Jadeja, playing his first ODI series in over 14 months, once again led India’s bowling attack. Before dismissing Root, he also sent back a well-set Ben Duckett (65 off 56) and later removed Jamie Overton (6 off 10). He ended with figures of 3/35 in 10 overs, following up his 3/26 in the first ODI.

Meanwhile, England were bowled out for 304 in 49.5 overs. Liam Livingstone (41 off 32) and Adil Rashid (14 off 5) helped them cross the 300-run mark after a solid start by the top order.
