In the latest turn of events, KL Rahul, who was going to open the inning for team India against New Zealand in the two-match Test series ruled out of it due to injury.
Suryakumar Yadav replaces him in the Test squad, cricbuzz reported. Rahul sustained a muscle strain on his left thigh and has been ruled out of the two Test matches.
The opening Test between India and New Zealand is scheduled to start from 25th November in Kanpur and the injury to KL Rahul came as a major blow with batting professionals like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma already missing the first Test.
Rahul missed team India’s customary practice session, attended by almost all the players on Tuesday at the Green Park stadium.
Notably, either of Suryakumar Yadav or Shreyas Iyer will make their Test debut for team India in Kanpur Test and bat in the middle order.
Here, it is worth noting that Shubman Gill was earlier expected to bat in the middle order but now in the absence of KL Rahul, the youngster will be asked to play in his usual opening slot along with Mayank Agarwal.
