IND vs WI: Brian Lara Shares Insights on West Indies’ Prospects Against India in the Upcoming Series

The West Indies cricket team is all set to face off against India in a highly anticipated multi-format series, starting July 12. The series will comprise two test matches, a five-match T20 series, and a three-match ODI series.

The first Test match between the two sides will be played at Windsor Park in Dominica from July 12. This series will serve as the starting point for both teams in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 cycle.

Meanwhile, ahead of the first Test, Lara acknowledged the capabilities and potential of team India while expressing confidence in the Windies’ fair chance under Kraigg Brathwaite’s leadership. Here’s what the legendary batter told The Indian Express:

“We have two very important Test matches which start the two-year cycle (WTC) for us, it is against India. At home and away from home, they are one of the top teams in the world. I think the guys are moving in the right direction, in terms of where we started the camp and where we are. It is just a few days off from the first match at Dominica, but it’s a young group, ably lead by Kraigg Brathwaite.”

Notably, the West Indies selection committee has included two promising left-handed batters into their Test squad for the first match namely, Kirk McKenzie and Alick Athanaze. Lara, weighing in on the same, expressed his delight over their selection, highlighting their positive mindset and potential to excel in international cricket.

“I feel that some of the guys can come into their own in this series, it is a tough opposition but I feel that’s the way we can get the best out of them. Great capable players, young and of course, you would have loved if they had a lot more experience in the first-class arena but looking at their style of play and attitude, I belief they do have what it takes to perform at the highest level.”

West Indies Out of World Cup 2023

West Indies failed to qualify for the upcoming ICC World Cup 2023, which is set to take place in India later this year in October. This will be the first instance where the men in Maroon won’t be partaking in the prestigious 50-overs tournament.
