The 34th match of the 13th season of Indian Premier League (IPL 2020) was played between MS Dhoni led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Delhi Capitals (DC) at the ground of Sharjah in which Shreyas Iyer led side won the match by 5 wickets

CSK skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni won the toss and decided to bat first. Batting first, CSK posted 179 runs on the scoreboard, thanks to Faf Du Plessis’ half-century.

Chasing 180, Delhi Capitals achieved the target in 19.5 overs losing 5 wickets, thanks to Shikhar Dhawan’s brilliant century.

Delhi’s opener Shikhar Dhawan scored his first century in T20 playing a brilliant inning. He completed the century with the help of 14 fours and a six off 57 balls.

With this win, Delhi Capitals have moved back to the top spot with 14 points and now they are just one win away from qualifying playoffs. Whereas the Chennai Super Kings’ situation becomes more miserable with another loss. They are currently at Number 6 with six points in the points table and they need to win all their remaining games to progress to the playoffs.

MS Dhoni’s Reaction At Post-Match Conversation

Speaking in the post-match conference, Dhoni revealed that he didn’t have many options other than Karn Sharma and Jadeja as Dwayne Bravo was not fit and moved out of the ground during the match. Dhoni also said that Shikhar Dhawan’s wicket was the most important wicket and they couldn’t able to dismiss him till the last. They also drop a few catches of Dhawan.

“Bravo was not fit, he went out and was really not able to come back. That was the reason we had to bowl (Jadeja). The option was between Karn and Jaddu so I went ahead with Jaddu. Maybe not enough. Shikhar’s wicket was important, we did drop him quite a few times. He’s somebody if he is batting, he’ll keep ticking the scoreboard. He’ll keep taking his chances. If he’s there on the crease, he’ll always maintain a good strike rate. I felt his wicket was crucial,” said Dhoni.

Can’t Take The Credit Away From Shikhar: MS Dhoni

Further, he added how the wicket helped the batsmen in the second innings. He also didn’t deny the fact that Dhawan batted really well and was also supported by the other batsmen.

“Also there was difference between the first innings and the second innings. The wicket behaved slightly better in the second innings, it came on slightly better which made it slightly easy for the batsmen. But overall, we can’t really take the credit away from Shikhar, he batted really well and was supported really well by the other batters,” he added.

“There was just enough dew, there wasn’t a lot of dew, just enough to make it slightly better and that creates a difference between the first and the second innings. It becomes slightly more difficult to score in the first innings in the middle overs and slightly easier in the middle overs of the second innings. So that could make the difference because you are minus 10 and then you have to stop those extra 10 runs in the second innings. So 20 runs is a lot of difference especially if the team is batting well,” said CSK skipper.
