Kings XI Punjab’s veteran batsman Chris Gayle has been fined 10% of his match fees for breaching Indian Premier League’s code of conduct during the match against Rajasthan Royals on Friday, October 30 in Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi.

The incident happened in the very last over of Punjab’s innings, when Jofra Archer bowled him out for 99. Gayle seemed unhappy and smashed his bat on the ground.

However, while walking off the field, he had a handshake with Archer.

“Gayle admitted to the Level 1 offence 2.2 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct and accepted the sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding,” the IPL release stated.

Gayle has touched a special milestone while playing against Rajasthan Royals. He becomes the first batsman to hit 1,000 sixes in his T20 career. He played a beautiful inning of 99 runs with the help of six fours and eight sixes. He has been proving his worth since the day he has been playing for Punjab based franchise. He has played six matches for Punjab (till now) and scored 276 runs at an average of 46 and with a strike rate of 144.50.

However his beautiful inning went in vain as Kings XI Punjab lost the match by seven wickets. Punjab, batting first posted 185 runs on the scoreboard. While, Rajasthan Royals, chasing 186, easily achieved the target in just 17.3 overs.

Nevertheless, after this loss, Kings XI Punjab will remain on the fourth spot of the points table and have more than decent chance of qualifying the playoffs.

Kings XI Punjab, Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders, all the teams have six wins in their account in 13 matches.

Kings XI Punjab will play their last game against Chennai Super Kings on November 1 in Abu Dhabi and in case if they lose that game, they will be eliminated as KKR and the Royals have a match each in the first round.
