Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) defeated Delhi Capitals (DC) by five wickets in the 38th match of the 13th season of Indian Premier League. Kings XI reached the 5th spot of the points table with this third consecutive win. At the same time, despite the defeat, Delhi remains on top. Nicholas Pooran played a match-winning inning of 53 runs off 28 deliveries.

Batting first after winning the toss, Delhi gave a target of 165 runs. In response, Punjab made 167 for 5 wickets in 19 and won the match.

Gayle and Rahul Early Dismissals

Kings XI Punjab had a poor start today. Punjab lost 3 wickets in the power-play. Captain Lokesh Rahul 15 runs, Chris Gayle 29 runs and Mayank Agarwal were run out on 5 runs. Nicholas Pooran scored the highest for the team, 53 runs and Glenn Maxwell scored 32 runs. Pooran made his second fifty in the tournament. He shared a 69-run partnership for fourth-wicket with Glenn Maxwell.

Chris Gayle scored 26 runs in the 5th over of the match with the help of 2 sixes and 3 fours. This was the most expensive over of this season’s power-play and was bowl by Tushar Deshpande. Earlier, Khaleel Ahmed of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) conceded 22 runs in an over during the power-play against Chennai Super Kings (CSK). At the same time, Trent Bolt of Mumbai Indians gave 20 runs in an over against Kings XI Punjab.

Shikhar Dhawan – First Batsman to Score 2 Consecutive Centuries in IPL

Delhi scored 164 for 5 wickets. The team was not doing well in spite of the fantastic hundred by Shikhar Dhawan. Prithvi Shaw (7 runs) and captain Shreyas Iyer (14 runs) were returned to the pavilion. Opener Shikhar Dhawan held at one end and scored an unbeaten inning of 106 off 61 balls. He has become the first player to score 2 consecutive centuries in IPL. Earlier, against Chennai, Shikhar had scored an unbeaten inning of 101 runs.

Apart from Dhawan, captain Shreyas Iyer and wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant were out for 14–14. Shreyas completed his 2 thousand runs in the league. For Punjab, Mohammed Shami took 2 wickets, while Glenn Maxwell, Jimmy Neesham and Murugan Ashwin got 1–1 wicket.

Virat Kohli – Most Number of Centuries in Single IPL Season

Shikhar Dhawan is the 5th player to score two or more centuries in a season. The record for the highest century in a season is named after Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Virat Kohli. He made 4 centuries in 2016. Chris Gayle in 2011, Hashim Amla in 2017 and Shane Watson in 2018 had two centuries each.

Prithvi Shaw Flopped in The Fourth Consecutive Match

Opener Prithvi Shaw flopped for the fourth consecutive time. He could score 11 runs in these 4 matches. During this time he could not even score a single run against Rajasthan and Chennai. He scored 4 against Mumbai and 7 in the current match.
