IPL 2021: KL Rahul Admitted To Hospital For Appendicitis Surgery; Mayank Agarwal To Lead Punjab Kings

KL Rahul has been in top form for Punjab Kings, and currently holds the Orange Cap with 331 runs from 7 matches, which includes 4 half-centuries.

Punjab Kings (PBKS) have been dealt with a massive blow as their skipper, KL Rahul has been diagnosed with Acute Appendicitis and he will undergo surgery to get treated.

At the moment, it is unclear whether KL Rahul will have to undergo mandatory quarantine after recovering, as has been the norm this season.

“KL Rahul complained of severe abdomen pain last night and after not responding to medication, he was taken to the emergency room for further tests which revealed he was diagnosed with acute appendicitis. It will be resolved surgically and for safety measures has been transferred to the hospital for the same,” Punjab Kings said in a statement.

KL Rahul’s Performance In IPL 2021

KL Rahul is currently the Orange Cap holder in IPL 2021. In seven innings, the right-handed opener has accumulated 331 runs at an average of 66.20. His form with the bat has been instrumental in the side’s fifth-placed ranking in the points table.

KL Rahul was at his best in the last match against RCB, where he smashed 57-ball 91, studded with seven fours and five sixes, single-handedly thrashed RCB out of the game. The knock and the win had rejuvenated Punjab fans’ hopes for a qualifier finish this season.

Mayank Agarwal To Lead Punjab Kings In The Absence Of KL Rahul

PTI has learnt that Mayank Agarwal will lead the side in Rahul’s absence, starting with tonight’s match against Delhi Capitals.

However, for Mayank Agarwal, it will be a challenge as the Karnataka batsman will not only need to sort out his inconsistency but also lead the side in a difficult situation. Agarwal has accumulated 161 runs in 6 matches so far.
