IPL 2021, Match 4 - RR vs PBKS: Punjab Kings Defeated Rajasthan Royals by 4 runs in a nail-biting thriller.
IPL 2021, Match 4 – RR vs PBKS: Sanju Samson, on Monday played a brilliant knock of 119 on his captaincy debut but still couldn’t stop Punjab Kings from registering a thumping 4-run win over Rajasthan Royals in Match 4 of the Indian Premier League 2021 in Mumbai.
Quick Highlights of The Match 4 RR vs PBKS
Chasing a mammoth target, the newly-appointed skipper kept the fight on until the last delivery but just could not make it.
Earlier in the match, the newly appointed captain of Rajasthan Royals Sanju Samson won the toss and opted to bowl first.
After putting into bat first, Mayank Agarwal departed early, but KL Rahul and Chris Gayle played along well before Gayle holed out to long-off for 40. Punjab Kings pulled off a masterstroke by sending Deepak Hooda above Nicholas Pooran as the former exhibited a fine display of power-hitting, slamming 64 off 28 balls. Hooda and KL Rahul added 105 for the fourth wicket from 47 balls. Punjab captain Rahul fell for 91 in the final over as Royals debutant Chetan Sakariya finished with three wickets. However, the Kings did what they wanted as they posted the mammoth score of 221 on board.
While Chasing, Rajasthan got off to the worst-possible start when Ben Stokes was dismissed off the third ball in the first over by Mohammed Shami with the team even opening their account. Second opener Manan Vohra, playing his first match for RR, also got out cheaply for 12 before Samson, Jos Buttler and Shivam Dube brought them back in the game.
Buttler and Dube played cameos of 25 and 23 respectively while Samson kept them in the hunt by scoring his 14th IPL fifty and first as the skipper. The equation got really close as Rajasthan needed 48 from the final 4 overs, a period of play where PBKS were worst in IPL 2020.
Samson brought up his 3rd IPL hundred off 54 and kept getting the big shots with success even as he kept losing partners at the other end. With 13 needed from the final over, Rahul handed the ball over to Arshdeep, who managed 0, 1, 1, 6, 0 and Samson’s wicket off the final ball to win the match for Punjab.
Before heading into next match, let’s have a look at the records broken in the match:

KL Rahul completes 2,000 IPL runs for Punjab Kings. Just like the last season, Rahul led the Punjab Kings from the front. He took charge of the innings right from the start. Rahul raced to his 22nd half-century in the IPL off mere 30 deliveries. He hammered 91 off 50 balls, a knock that was studded with 7 fours and 5 sixes.
