IPL 2023 Retention: Delhi Capitals (DC) To Release Shardul Thakur, Tim Seifert Along With Three Other Players
Delhi Capitals wanted to trade Shardul Thakur to other teams ahead of IPL 2023 mini-auction but the deal could not proceed due to his high price tag.
Delhi Capitals (DC) are likely to release five players, namely Shardul Thakur, K S Bharat, Tim Seifert, Mandeep Singh, and Ashwin Hebbar ahead of the player retention deadline on November 15.
Shardul Thakur was acquired by Delhi Capitals for the whopping amount of INR 10.75 Crore in the mega-auction held in February earlier this year ahead of the 2022 edition of the cash-rich league.
He picked 15 wickets in 14 matches in the 2022 edition of the showpiece tournament but conceded runs at a higher economy. With the bat, he scored 120 runs at an average of 10.81 and a strike rate of 137.93
Delhi Capitals was looking to trade Thakur to other teams but that deal could not proceed due to his high price tag and hence the franchise decided to release him ahead of the mini-auction in December.
“Shardul is a premium all-rounder but his price tag was an issue. The others who are set to be released are Hebbar, Mandeep, Seifert, and Bharat,” an IPL source told PTI.
KS Bharath, the Andhra wicket-keeper batter was bought by Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 mega auction for INR 2 Crore. He played two matches in the last season of the IPL, where he scored just eight runs.
New Zealand batter Tim Seifert, meanwhile played only two games for Delhi Capitals, where he accumulated 24 runs. He was picked by Delhi Capitals for his base price of INR 50 lakh.
Punjab batter Mandeep Singh couldn’t live up to expectations, scoring just 18 runs in three matches he played for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2022. Andhra batter Ashwin Hebbar meanwhile did not get a game in the 2022 edition of IPL.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is all set to organize a mini-action ahead of the 2023 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The showpiece event is scheduled to take place in Bangalore on December 16.
