IPL 2023 Retention: Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) to Release Manish Pandey & Two Others Ahead of Mini-Auction

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) is likely to release Manish Pandey, Andrew Tye, and Ankit Rajpoot before the IPL 2023 auction.

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), one of the two new franchises that made their debut in IPL 2022, had an average season as they made it to the playoffs after winning nine of their 14 matches.

However, they lost the Eliminator against Royal Challengers Bangalore and were knocked out of the tournament. Heading into 2023, they will be looking for some changes.

As per reports, the Uttar Pradesh-based franchise has decided to release Manish Pandey, Australian fast bowler Andrew Tye, West Indies all-rounder Jason Holder and Indian pacer Ankit Rajpoot ahead of the mini-auction.

Lucknow Super Giants acquired the services of Indian batter Manish Pandey for a whopping amount of INR 4.6 crore. However, the Karnataka batter failed to justify his price tag, having managed to score just 88 runs in six outings at a strike rate of 110.

As for Andrew Tye, the franchise had signed him as the replacement for injured Mark Wood. He played only three matches for LSG, where he failed to make an impact with the ball, having picked up two wickets at an economy rate of 9.72.

Ankit Rajput, who was roped in for INR 50 lakhs didn’t get any game in the 2022 edition of IPL and is likely to be released ahead of the mini-auction. Notably, Lucknow Super Giants already have brilliant pace options in their arsenal, including Avesh Khan, Mohsin Khan, and Mark Wood.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had asked all ten franchises to confirm their retention and retained players and submit the list to the board by November 15. The mini-auction for IPL 2023 is set to take place in Kochi on December 23.
