IPL 2024: ‘CSK, MI Approached Virat Kohli to Come In Auction’ – Ex-RCB Skipper Prioritizes Loyalty

Virat Kohli has opened up on his loyalty with RCB.

There’s no denying Virat Kohli’s stature as one of the contemporary batting legends, particularly in the shortest format of cricket. However, it’s disheartening that despite 16 years in the Indian Premier League, he hasn’t secured the title with RCB.

You might have heard it a million times – fans and armchair critics wonder why Virat Kohli, one of the big guns in cricket, didn’t switch teams to clinch at least an IPL trophy before retiring. But for Kohli, loyalty’s the name of the game, and he’s RCB through and through.

Don’t just take our word for it – Virat Kohli himself spilled the beans on a recent RCB podcast. He also dropped a bombshell by revealing that heavyweight franchises have approached him many times, sparking speculation among fans that they could be none other than Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings.

“To be very honest, I’ve thought about it. Yes, I won’t shy away from it. And I’ve been approached many times as well to come to the auction and then I thought about it. I was like at the end of the day, everyone as X number of years that they live right. And then you die and then life moves on.”

“And there would have been many, many people who wanted trophies. But no one addresses you like that. No one addresses you in the room like: Oh, he’s an IPL champion or he is a World Cup champion. If you are a good person, people like you. If you are a bad guy, then they stay away from you and eventually that’s what life is all about.”

RCB Backed Me When No One Did: Virat Kohli

It’s worth noting that Virat Kohli stands out as the only player who’s been with a single franchise since the tournament’s inception, remaining a constant for RCB. Sharing his thoughts on this, he emphasized the backing he’s received from RCB and expressed that it wouldn’t be fair to switch teams now, after achieving success.

“What this franchise has given me in terms of opportunity in the first 3 years and then believed in me, that is the most special thing, as I said, there were many teams who had the opportunity but they didn’t back me? They didn’t believe in me then.”

In IPL 2024, the RCB team seems to be struggling once again, having lost five out of six matches played thus far, and finding themselves at the bottom of the points table. Virat Kohli continues to lead the team in scoring.
