IPL 2024: Fan Scammed of 3 Lakh Rupees While Booking RCB vs CSK Match Tickets

Fan duped of 3 Lakh rupees in RCB vs CSK ticket fraud.

A Bengaluru man has been defrauded of a staggering ₹3 lakh while attempting to purchase tickets for the upcoming high-stakes IPL match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at Chinnaswamy Stadium.

The much-anticipated match, scheduled for Saturday, May 18th, has fueled speculation that it could be MS Dhoni‘s final IPL appearance if RCB emerges victorious. This excitement has unfortunately created a prime target for scammers.

According to reports in The Times of India (TOI), the victim, searching for tickets online, came through an Instagram account named ‘ipl_2024_tickets_24’. The overexcited fan initiated a conversation with someone posing as an authorized IPL ticket seller, Padma Sinha Vijay Kumar.

In an attempt to verify the account’s legitimacy, the victim sent his Aadhar card and mobile number for “verification.” The seller offered tickets at ₹2,300 each.

Following a payment of ₹7,900 for three tickets, the victim never received the e-tickets. The culprit, Padma Sinha, blamed a “technical glitch” and demanded an additional ₹67,000.

The victim, repeatedly promised a refund, kept sending money until the total loss reached a staggering ₹3 lakh. With the scammer demanding even more, the victim finally approached the Bengaluru police, who registered a case under IPC Section 420 (cheating) and launched an investigation.

Meanwhile, authorities have issued a public advisory urging all cricket fans to purchase tickets only from authorized sources and official ticket-selling partners.
