IPL 2024: Michael Vaughan Slams Mumbai Indians for Appointing Hardik Pandya as Captain
Hardik Pandya replaces Rohit Sharma as Mumbai Indians’ skipper.
Michael Vaughan, the ex-England skipper, is openly questioning why Rohit Sharma has been removed as Mumbai Indians’ skipper in IPL 2024, with Hardik Pandya taking the helm instead. He’s calling it one of the stranger moves in cricket history.
Mumbai Indians secured the services of the 30-year-old all-rounder from the Gujarat Titans, where he led the team for a couple of years, including a championship win in 2022.
Given Rohit’s track record of captaining Mumbai to five title victories since 2013, fans were furious about the decision. Here’s what Michael Vaughan said after Mumbai Indians’ second consecutive defeat in IPL 2024:
“Removing Rohit as skipper of the @mipaltan is one of the stranger moves in sport .. Btw .. Henrich Klassen is some player .. He is right up there with great middle order strikers of a white ball .,” Vaughan wrote on X.
Mumbai Indians suffered their first defeat against the Gujarat Titans by six runs at Narendra Modi Stadium while Sunrisers Hyderabad thrashed the five-time champions by 31 runs at Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium.
