Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) veteran cricketer, MS Dhoni, continues to defy age and prove that he’s still got it. In a recent IPL 2024 match against Gujarat Titans (GT) at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium, Dhoni put on his exceptional skills behind the stumps by taking a stunning catch to dismiss Vijay Shankar.
With Gujarat Titans chasing a target of 207 runs, they were under pressure after losing both their openers early. The momentum was shifting towards Chennai Super Kings as the run-rate climbed, putting even more pressure on the batting side.
During the match, Daryl Mitchell, a part-time bowler for Chennai, delivered a fuller ball that edged towards the right side of the wicketkeeper. Dhoni, positioned behind the stumps, had to dive to his right to grab the catch, thrilling the crowd with his agility and reflexes.
Chennai Super Kings had set a challenging target of 207 runs, thanks to huge contributions from Shivam Dube, who scored a half-century, as well as 46 runs each from Rachin Ravindra and Ruturaj Gaikwad. Youngster Sameer Rizvi also made a quick impact by scoring 15 runs off just three deliveries, even managing to hit some shots against Rashid Khan.
As Dhoni’s playing days with the franchise may be nearing their end, he has already passed on the captaincy role to Ruturaj Gaikwad at the beginning of the season. Gaikwad started his captaincy stint positively with a convincing win over the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, earning Chennai Super Kings their first two points of the season.
