IPL 2025: Delhi Capitals Captain Axar Patel Penalised for Over Rate Violation Against Mumbai Indians

Axar Patel was fined ₹12 lakh by the BCCI for Delhi Capitals’ slow over rate in their IPL 2025 match against Mumbai Indians.

Delhi Capitals’ winning run in IPL 2025 came to an end with a 12-run loss to Mumbai Indians at Arun Jaitley Stadium. Along with the defeat, DC captain Axar Patel faced a penalty for breaking an IPL rule during the game.

Axar Patel Fined for Slow Over Rate

Axar Patel was fined ₹12 lakhs by the BCCI for maintaining a slow over rate during the match. This was Delhi Capitals’ first offence of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which deals with minimum over-rate rules. Despite having three spinners in the playing XI, DC failed to complete their overs in the given time, leading to the penalty on the captain.

MI End DC’s Unbeaten Run

In the match, Mumbai Indians scored 205 runs thanks to quickfire innings from Tilak Varma, Ryan Rickelton, Suryakumar Yadav, and Naman Dhir. In reply, DC looked strong with Karun Nair’s explosive 89, but Karn Sharma’s three wickets changed the momentum. Mumbai held their nerve and bowled out Delhi for 193 in 19 overs to hand them their first loss of the season.
