IPL 2025: “It Was a Big Mistake” – MS Dhoni Opens Up on His Most Controversial Moment
MS Dhoni finally speaks about his rare outburst in IPL 2019, calling it a big mistake.
MS Dhoni is famous for his calm and composed nature on the cricket field. However, he also has an angry side, which is rarely seen. One such moment came during IPL 2019 when Dhoni lost his cool for the first time in front of fans.
The Incident in IPL 2019
The moment happened during a match between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. CSK was chasing a target of 152, and in the final over, they needed 18 runs to win.
Ben Stokes dismissed Dhoni on the third delivery of the over. On the next ball, he bowled a slower full-toss to Mitchell Santner. It looked like a high no-ball, and the on-field umpire, Ulhas Gandhe, raised his arm to signal it. However, square leg umpire Bruce Oxenford overruled the call, and the decision was reversed.
Ravindra Jadeja and Santner questioned the umpire’s decision. Seeing this, Dhoni stepped onto the field, looking furious. He had a heated argument with the umpires, something that fans had never seen before. However, the decision remained unchanged. Despite this, Santner smashed a six on the last ball, and CSK won the match by four wickets.
Dhoni Admits It Was a Big Mistake
Now, just before IPL 2025, Dhoni spoke about this moment during an event. When asked if he had ever lost his cool, he admitted to it.
“Yes, lots of times. One of the IPL games, I just walked out to the field – That was a big mistake.”
Even though Dhoni is known for staying calm under pressure, he now regrets that moment. This shows that even the best players make mistakes and learn from them.
