IPL 2025 Jasprit Bumrah To Play RCB vs MI? Mumbai Indians Coach Provides Latest Update on Pacer
MI head coach Mahela Jayawardene confirmed that Jasprit Bumrah’s return remains uncertain as the team awaits clearance from the NCA.

Mumbai Indians (MI) are set to face Gujarat Titans (GT) in their second match of IPL 2025 on March 29. The five-time champions suffered a disappointing loss to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in their season opener and are now looking to bounce back.
MI Still Waiting For Bumrah’s Return
Jasprit Bumrah was absent in MI’s first match, and his absence was clearly felt as the team failed to defend 156 runs. The star pacer has been out since January 2025 due to a back injury, and initial reports suggested he would miss at least the first three matches of the season. However, as things stand, his return might be delayed even further.
MI will play their third match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on March 31, and fans are now wondering if Bumrah will be available for the highly anticipated clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on April 7.
MI Head Coach Mahela Jayawardene Provides Injury Update
MI head coach Mahela Jayawardene recently addressed Bumrah’s injury status, stating that the franchise is still waiting for clearance from the National Cricket Academy (NCA). He also hinted that the pacer’s return might take longer than expected.
“Everyone is available except for Bumrah. Like I said in my last interview as well, it’s on a daily basis that he’s going through his program. So far, everything seems okay. But there were no timelines given by NCA, so we’ll wait on that,” Jayawardene told reporters.
With no clear return date, Bumrah is also set to miss the Champions Trophy 2025, adding to MI’s concerns as they look to regain form in the tournament.
