IPL 2025: KL Rahul to Sacrifice His Batting Position for Faf du Plessis in Delhi Capitals Team

KL Rahul is likely to bat in the middle order for Delhi Capitals.

KL Rahul has played in various batting positions across formats. He has opened the innings, batted in the middle order, and even played as a finisher. In the recently concluded Champions Trophy, he played at No. 6 instead of his usual No. 5 position to accommodate a left-hander.

Now, in IPL 2025, Rahul is set for another batting order shift. Delhi Capitals have roped in Faf du Plessis for the season, and he is likely to open the innings. This means KL Rahul will have to move down the order to make space for the former RCB captain at the top.

The DelhiCapitals think tank has been considering this change to strengthen their middle order. They already have solid top-order options, but their middle order lacks experience. With this adjustment, LSG can have Faf du Plessis and Jake-FraserMcGurk as openers, while Rahul can play a stabilizing role in the middle overs.

This will be an unusual role for Rahul in T20 cricket, as he has mostly played as an opener in the format. However, he has always been a team player, adjusting his position based on the team’s needs.

Delhi Capitals will finalize their playing XI soon, and Rahul is expected to take on this new role when they play their first match of the season against Lucknow Super Giants on March 24.
