IPL 2025: LSG Get a Major Boost as Speedster Mayank Yadav Joins the Squad

Mayank Yadav has rejoined the Lucknow Super Giants after recovering from injury and is set to undergo a fitness test before the next match.

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have received a big boost ahead of their upcoming match against Rajasthan Royals. Their young fast bowler, Mayank Yadav, has rejoined the team after completing his rehabilitation. He arrived at the team camp on Tuesday night and will now go through a fitness test before being cleared to play.

Mayank Yadav has been out of action since suffering a back injury during the T20I series against Bangladesh last year. He last played a competitive game six months ago. While recovering at the National Cricket Academy, he also picked up a toe injury, which delayed his return further.

According to reports, the BCCI medical team at the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru has given Mayank the green signal. But his availability for the weekend game will depend on the final clearance from LSG’s head physio, Ashish Kaushik.

The team management is expected to be cautious with Mayank’s return, especially given his injury history. In the last two years alone, he has suffered five stress fractures. Even in IPL 2024, he played just four matches before being ruled out due to a side strain.

Mayank made his international debut in Gwalior and impressed in his first three matches, but once again got injured. Now, after months of recovery, he looks ready to make a comeback.

Lucknow Super Giants have already been dealing with injury concerns this season. Mohsin Khan was ruled out before the tournament began, and Shardul Thakur was named as his replacement. While Thakur is among the top wicket-takers, his high economy rate remains a concern for the team.

As of now, LSG are placed fifth on the points table with four wins in seven games. They lost their last match to Chennai Super Kings by five wickets and will be hoping for a better show in their next game — especially if Mayank returns to the playing XI.
