IPL 2025: LSG Owner Sanjiv Goenka Enters Dressing Room Again to Lecture Players
Sanjiv Goenka acknowledged the disappointment but focused on the positives.
Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) suffered a heartbreaking loss against Delhi Capitals (DC) in their first IPL 2025 match. Despite being in control for most of the game, LSG lost by one wicket in the final moments. After the match, team owner Sanjiv Goenka visited the dressing room to lift the players’ spirits.
Sanjiv Goenka’s Message to the Team
LSG had performed well in both batting and bowling. They posted a strong total of 209 and had DC struggling after taking five early wickets. However, late heroics from Tristan Stubbs, Vipraj Nigam, and Ashutosh Sharma took the game away. Goenka acknowledged the disappointment but focused on the positives.
He told the players, “Lots of positives that I take away from this game in batting, in bowling. The way we had the powerplay in both batting and bowling was brilliant. These things happen. We are a young team, let’s look at the positives, look forward, from tomorrow, to the 27th. And hopefully, we’ll have a better result. Disappointing result [tonight], yes. But, great game. So well done.”
Goenka encouraged the team to stay confident and focus on their next match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on March 27 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.
Tough Memories from Last Year’s SRH Match
LSG’s last match against SRH in IPL 2024 was a nightmare. Batting first, they scored 165/4, which seemed like a decent total. But SRH’s openers, Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head, had different plans.
The duo completely dominated LSG’s bowlers, smashing 14 sixes and 16 fours. They chased down the target of 166 in just 9.4 overs. Abhishek scored 75 off 28 balls, while Head blasted 89 off 30 balls. LSG bowlers had no answers.
That loss badly affected LSG’s net run rate (NRR). It was a major reason why they failed to qualify for the playoffs for the first time.
Viral Moment Between Goenka and KL Rahul
After that heavy defeat, Goenka was seen having an intense discussion with then-captain KL Rahul. The video went viral on social media. Shortly after, Rahul left LSG and joined DC before the IPL 2025 mega auction.
Now, with a fresh season ahead, Goenka wants LSG to move forward with confidence. The match against SRH will be a chance for them to prove their strength and avoid repeating past mistakes.
