Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) started their IPL 2025 campaign with a convincing seven-wicket win over Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. Chasing 175, RCB’s top order put on a strong show, with Virat Kohli anchoring the innings with an unbeaten 59 off 36 balls.
Earlier, Kolkata Knight Riders posted 174 for 8 in 20 overs. Ajinkya Rahane led the charge with 56 off 31 balls, while Sunil Narine played a quick knock of 44 off 26 deliveries.
However, despite a solid start, KKR lost momentum in the middle overs. Angkrish Raghuvanshi chipped in with 30 off 22 balls, but the rest of the batting lineup struggled. Josh Hazlewood was economical with 2 for 22, while Krunal Pandya took three wickets for 29 runs.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru began their chase aggressively with Phil Salt smashing 56 off 31 balls, including nine fours and two sixes. After his dismissal, Virat Kohli took control of the innings. Rajat Patidar played a quick cameo of 34 off 16 balls, while Liam Livingstone sealed the victory with 15 off just five deliveries. RCB comfortably reached the target in 16.2 overs.
KKR’s bowlers had a tough outing, with only Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy managing a wicket each. The expensive spells from the rest of the attack made it easy for RCB to chase down the total. With this win, RCB got off to a strong start in IPL 2025, while KKR will look to recover in their next game.
