IPL 2025: R Ashwin Breaks Silence on Trolling, Points to RCB Fans’ Loyalty as an Example
R Ashwin says he's not affected by trolls and believes real fans, like those of RCB, always support players even during bad form.

Ravichandran Ashwin, one of India’s most experienced off-spinners, has opened up about the criticism he has faced in IPL 2025 after rejoining Chennai Super Kings (CSK). With CSK struggling this season, Ashwin has become a talking point among fans and critics alike but the 37-year-old insists he isn’t affected by online trolling.
My Father Still Reprimands Me – R Ashwin
In a heartfelt conversation on his YouTube show, Ashwin said he welcomes feedback that comes from a genuine place, even if it’s critical.
“My parents still scold me. My father still reprimands me if I get out. That’s fine with me because it comes from love,” he shared. “I can tell the difference between constructive criticism and venom. If people are ranting because they care, I’m okay with it.”
Ashwin also reflected on how deeply some people’s words can cut but only when they are filled with hate.
“Some people troll for no reason. Their words are full of venom. But I don’t let that get to me. I don’t worry about that too much. It’s always been about trying to be better than today.”
Struggles with CSK in IPL 2025
CSK have had a tough time this season, losing four out of their first five games. The team currently sits at the 9th spot in the 10-team points table.
Ashwin, who was bought for Rs 9.75 crore in the mega option, has taken just five wickets in five matches and has been expensive with the ball. His economy rate stands at 9.88, and he was particularly expensive in the powerplay against Punjab Kings, conceding 21 runs.
Real Fans Don’t Let Players Down – Ashwin on Loyalty
Ashwin also spoke about the loyalty of cricket fans and how he distances himself from social media during the tournament.
“I completely eliminate social media when I’m playing in the IPL. Even my friends send me messages to stay strong when I’m not doing well. But I tell them not to send those too. I don’t want to know what’s happening outside,” he said.
He further added, “There are fans who don’t even know why they are trolling. They just do it out of anger. That’s why I stay off social media completely.”
Ashwin also recalled a conversation with Dinesh Karthik about Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) fans.
“DK once told me that RCB fans never let their players down. That’s true fandom. I believe in criticism that’s honest, but I also believe real fans stick with their players in tough times,” he said.
Ashwin Stops CSK Game Reviews
Ashwin, who regularly hosts a YouTube series discussing IPL games, has also stopped reviewing CSK matches this season. During the early part of the campaign, he was criticised for speaking about the team’s performance while also being part of the playing XI. Since then, he has paused that segment on his channel.
