Virat Kohli remains one of the most talked-about athletes in India. Fans love to discuss not just his game but also his personal life. Cricket shows often focus on both, keeping viewers engaged. Even when Kohli played in the Ranji Trophy earlier this year, the food he shared with teammates became a topic of discussion.
Kohli Wants Focus on Sports, Not Personal Life
Virat Kohli believes broadcasters should stop focusing on small details like his food choices and instead promote sports culture in India. He wants more attention on an athlete’s journey, training, and sacrifices rather than their favorite meals.
Speaking at the Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s Innovation Lab Indian Sports Summit, he said, “We are working towards making India a sports-driven nation. The foundation is being laid now, and it needs everyone’s effort. It’s not just about money or infrastructure; education is important too.”
He further added, “Sports broadcasts should focus on the game. Talking about what I had for lunch or where I eat chole bhature in Delhi doesn’t help. People should understand what an athlete goes through during a match.”
Broadcasters Have Covered Kohli’s Food Habits Before
In the past, TV shows have even discussed Kohli’s love for chole bhature and how he gave it up to stay fit. While these stories entertain fans, Kohli feels they don’t add value to sports discussions. He wants the media to shift its focus to the hard work and dedication of athletes instead.
Kohli Joins RCB Camp for IPL 2025
With the IPL 2025 season approaching, Kohli has rejoined the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) camp. There were speculations about him becoming captain again, but the management has given the responsibility to Rajat Patidar, looking towards the future. However, Kohli will continue to support and guide Patidar in his new role.
Kohli’s message is clear—India needs to become a sports-driven nation, and for that to happen, the focus should be on the game, not unnecessary personal stories.
