Irfan Pathan Mocks Indian Team’s Star Treatment, Shares Pat Cummins Waterboy Gesture During T20 World Cup Match

Pat Cummins failed to find a place in Australia’s playing XI against Oman in T20 World Cup 2024.

Former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan took to social media to praise the team culture within the Australian cricket team after Pat Cummins, their World Cup-winning captain, was seen carrying drinks for his teammates during their T20 World Cup opener against Oman on Wednesday.

Cummins, who led Australia to victories in both the ICC World Test Championship and the ODI World Cup in 2023, was a surprising omission from the playing XI for the T20 World Cup match.

With Mitchell Marsh taking the all-rounder role, the Aussies opted for a pace attack featuring Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, and Nathan Ellis.

Despite his omission, Cummins displayed his commitment to the team by taking on the waterboy duties. Irfan Pathan shared a picture of this on social media, with the caption “The CULTURE.”

Irfan Pathan’s post likely highlights the difference in approach between Australian and Indian cricket cultures. In India, star players often receive special treatment, whereas Australia seems to prioritize team unity regardless of individual stature.

Pat Cummins captained the SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) to the IPL 2024 final, though they ultimately fell short to the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

Cummins’ has taken 57 wickets in 52 T20 Internationals with a miserly economy rate of 7.43. He also added 18 wickets to his tally in IPL 2024, playing a key role in SRH’s run to the finals.
