‘James Anderson Should’ve Announced Retirement Alongside Broad’ – Ex-England Bowling Coach
Stuart Broad Announced Retirement at the conclusion of the Ashes 2023.
Former England bowling coach, Ottis Gibson, heavily criticized James Anderson for his lackluster performance in the Ashes 2023 and suggested that his retirement is now in the hands of others.
During a conversation with Yorkshire Post, Gibson pointed out that James Anderson had the opportunity to retire alongside his close friend and fellow teammate, Stuart Broad, at the conclusion of the Ashes 2023.
“It’s just my opinion, but Jimmy [James Anderson] has now put his exit in the hands of other people. He has not had the best series. They could have walked off together [James Anderson and Stuart Broad]. Fantastic, great careers,” Gibson said to Yorkshire Post.
The former bowling coach also revealed how James Anderson was deeply affected when he was dropped from the West Indies tour during Joe Root’s captaincy, but he was given another chance when Ben Stokes took over the captain’s position.
“It’s only a year ago he was left out of the tour to the Caribbean, and I know how hurt he was at that. Again, it’s just my opinion, but I feel like he’s put himself now at the mercy of other people when it comes to his exit from the game,” Gibson added.
‘I have a lot to offer in India’ – James Anderson
While there is much speculation surrounding his retirement, James Anderson made it clear that he is determined to continue his involvement with the England team. He confirmed his availability for the Test series against India in India next January.
“The chats I have had with England, I have said I have not contributed the way I wanted to in this series on the field. But I feel like I have a lot to offer the team going to somewhere like India in the New Year,” James Anderson wrote in his column for The Telegraph.
“I will keep myself in good nick for the next few months, then in October I will start turning my arm over again and get the bowling back up to scratch because it has been a bit off this summer, then look forward to next year,” Anderson added.
The upcoming tour of India in January will be a biggest challenge for England as they gear up for a five-match Test series. The team’s attacking Test cricket approach, known as ‘Bazball’ will be put to the test.
