Kane Williamson Hints at Retiring from T20 Cricket

Kane Williamson is uncertain regarding his T20 career after disappointing T20 World Cup 2024.

New Zealand’s T20 World Cup campaign ended in the group stage for the first time ever. Kane Williamson’s squad was eliminated after consecutive losses to West Indies and Afghanistan.

Trent Boult, the renowned pacer, has declared his retirement from T20 World Cup participation, while Kane Williamson remains unsure about continuing in the format.

Kane Williamson‘s batting performance has significantly declined, particularly in T20 cricket. In the IPL 2024, he had limited opportunities to bat for the Gujarat Titans.

“Oh, I don’t know. There’s a bit of time between now and then, so it’s about regrouping as a side. We’ve got red-ball cricket over the next year basically, so it’s back into some other international formats, and we’ll see where things land,” Williamson was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo when asked about his participation in the 2026 T20 World Cup.

Williamson stepped down from Test captaincy in 2022, with Tim Southee succeeding him. He is currently leading the team in white-ball cricket, but his future is uncertain following the disappointment of the T20 World Cup 2024.
