Karun Nair in Line for India A Selection Before England Test Series

Karun Nair is likely to make a comeback with India A for the England tour after his strong performances in domestic cricket.

Veteran batter Karun Nair might be making a return to red-ball cricket. Reports suggest that he is likely to be included in the India A squad for the England tour. India A will play two four-day matches against England Lions before the senior team’s five-match Test series.

Strong Domestic Performances

The selection committee of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is impressed with Karun Nair’s recent performances in domestic cricket. According to a report by Press Trust of India (PTI), Nair played nine matches in the Ranji Trophy and scored 863 runs. His batting included four centuries and two half-centuries, with an average of 53.93. These numbers make him one of the top contenders for a place in the India A team.

Rohit Sharma & Virat Kohli Might Play For India A

The report also mentions that senior players Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli might play for India A to regain their form before the Test series. Both had a tough time in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia.

Virat Kohli managed to score only 190 runs in the series at an average of 23.75. Rohit Sharma struggled even more, scoring just 31 runs at a poor average of 6.20. Playing for India A could help them prepare better for the England Tests.

BCCI Monitoring Jasprit Bumrah’s Recovery

India’s top fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah is still recovering from a back injury. He was ruled out of the Champions Trophy and has not played in the IPL 2025 so far. If he does not recover in time, it will be difficult for the selectors to find a strong replacement for the Test series against England.

With the England tour approaching, the selectors are keeping a close watch on players’ performances and fitness. The final squad for the Test series will be announced soon.
