KKR Crush SRH by 8 Wickets to Book Place in IPL 2024 Final
KKR will now play the final against the winner of the Qualifier 2.
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) stormed into their fourth IPL final with a dominant eight-wicket victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Qualifier 1 on Tuesday. The win at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad was orchestrated by a fiery bowling performance from Mitchell Starc and a clinical batting display by the Iyer duo.
Mitchell Starc, the tournament’s most expensive overseas buy, finally lived up to his potential, ripping through the SRH top order in the powerplay. Hyderabad, despite entering the match in good form, were never able to recover from the early blows, mustering a meagre 159 runs.
Shreyas Iyer-Venkatesh Iyer Batting Masterclass Blows Away SRH
Chasing a modest target, KKR openers Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Sunil Narine provided a brisk start. While Narine struggled for fluency, the Iyer duo took center stage. Venkatesh, a consistent performer throughout the season, anchored the innings with a well-paced fifty. However, it was Shreyas Iyer‘s knock that stole the show.
Playing with a positive intent, Shreyas unleashed a brutal assault on the SRH bowling attack, particularly targeting spinner Travis Head. Three sixes in a row off Travis Head sealed the victory for KKR in emphatic fashion. He ended up scoring 58 runs from just 24 balls, which is probably his best ever knock in this IPL season.
With a thumping victory under their belt, Kolkata Knight Riders can now rest and regroup before the grand finale. They will be eager to add another IPL trophy to their cabinet, while SRH will get another shot at reaching the final through Qualifier 2.
