‘KKR Is Still 2 Trophies Behind CSK and MI’ – Gautam Gambhir

Gautam Gambhir wants KKR to become the most successful franchise in IPL history.

Gautam Gambhir, who was appointed as the mentor of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) ahead of the IPL 2024, proved to be an outstanding move as he helped lead KKR to their third IPL title.

The Kolkata Knight Riders, led by Shreyas Iyer, defeated the Sunrisers Hyderabad by eight wickets in a one-sided affair in the IPL 2024 final, lifting their third IPL title after a gap of 10 years.

Earlier, in 2012 and then in 2014, Gautam Gambhir had led the Kolkata Knight Riders to IPL titles, but since then, they had failed to win any trophies until IPL 2024.

In a recent interview after winning the trophy with KKR, Gautam Gambhir revealed that he is not entirely satisfied with the title win, as his team, the Kolkata Knight Riders, are still not the most successful team in IPL history.

He mentioned that they are still two trophies away from matching the legacy of the Chennai Super Kings and the Mumbai Indians, and three trophies away from becoming the most successful team in IPL history. He expressed his team’s ambition to achieve this in the upcoming years.

“We are still two trophies away from Mumbai, Indians and Chennai Super Kings. The hunger is still there to become the most successful franchise of the Indian Premier League and to become that you have to win three more trophies and for that you have to do a lot of hard work. So the journey has just started.”

The question also arises: Will Gautam Gambhir remain with the Kolkata Knight Riders? It has been reported that the BCCI has approached him for the head coach position. If he accepts the position, he may not be able to guide KKR.
