Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) opener Phil Salt came out all guns blazing against Varun Chakravarthy in the IPL 2025 opener against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Eden Gardens. The English batter, who struggled against Chakravarthy during the recent T20I series against India, turned the tables this time by smashing him for three boundaries and one six in a single over.
Chakravarthy, known for his mystery spin, ended up conceding 21 runs in the over, unable to contain Salt’s aggressive approach. The RCB opener continued his onslaught and reached a 25-ball half-century against his former franchise.
KKR’s Total & RCB’s Chase
Earlier, Kolkata Knight Riders posted 174 runs in their 20 overs. Ajinkya Rahane and Sunil Narine gave KKR a flying start, but a middle and lower-order collapse prevented them from reaching a 180+ total.
At the time of writing, RCB is 91 for no loss after eight overs, with Phil Salt and Virat Kohli leading the chase strongly. With wickets in hand and plenty of firepower left, RCB looks on track for a successful run chase.
