KKR vs SRH: Who is Kamindu Mendis? SRH’s Ambidextrous Bowler in IPL
Kamindu Mendis is an all-rounder for SRH who can bowl with both hands and made his IPL debut against KKR.

Kamindu Mendis, a 26-year-old Sri Lankan all-rounder, has made his IPL debut for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). He is the fourth Sri Lankan cricketer to play for the Hyderabad-based team, after Kumar Sangakkara, Thisara Perera, and Vijayakanth Viyaskanth.
Kamindu Mendis’ Cricket Journey
Mendis won the ICC Men’s Emerging Cricketer of the Year award in 2024. He scored 1,458 international runs that year. He made his Test debut against Australia in 2022 and scored 61 runs in his first innings. However, he did not get another Test match until March 2024. He has five Test centuries, including one against England in Manchester.
In T20 internationals, he has played 23 matches but has not made a big impact. He has scored only two fifties with an average of 19.05 and a strike rate of 122.5.
A Unique Ambidextrous Bowler
Kamindu Mendis is special because he can bowl with both hands. He can bowl off-spin with his right hand and left-arm spin with his left hand. During India’s tour of Sri Lanka in 2024, he bowled right-arm off-spin to Rishabh Pant and left-arm spin to Suryakumar Yadav.
He also played in the 2016 Men’s Under-19 World Cup for Sri Lanka. He took five wickets in that tournament, including Rashid Khan’s wicket on his debut.
Mendis made an immediate impact in his first IPL match. He took the wicket of Angkrish Raghuvanshi, who scored 50 runs from 32 balls.
