KL Rahul, the captain of Punjab Kings is likely to leave the Punjab based franchise ahead of IPL 2022, Cricbuzz reported. He has been leading Punjab Kings since 2020 after R Ashwin was traded to Delhi Capitals.

Rahul was roped in by Punjab Kings ahead of IPL 2018 after he was released by his former franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore. Punjab spent a whopping INR 110 million to secure his services at the player auction in 2018.

As per Cricbuzz, a few franchises have shown interest in buying him at IPL 2022 mega-auction. KL Rahul has been fantastic with the bat ever since he joined Punjab Kings [Earlier Kings XI Punjab]. He has breached the 400-run mark in every season since 2018.

Rahul scored 659 runs in 2018 and followed up with 592 runs in the next season. In IPL 2020, Rahul won the Orange Cap for scoring 670 runs and currently, he is the leading run-getter in the tournament with 626 runs in 13 matches.

While he has been impressive with the bat, it was his captaincy that has put him under the microscope from time to time.

With Virat Kohli leaving RCB’s captaincy from next season of IPL, KL Rahul could be a good captaincy candidate for Bangalore based franchise. However, with two new teams also being added from the next season, the bidding for the Banglore-born would be high.

Notably, KL Rahul has already played for Royal Challengers Bangalore and SunRisers Hyderabad in past.

Punjab Kings, in the IPL 2021 has finished at sixth spot in the points table after registering six victories from 14 matches.
