The Lanka Premier League 2020 (LPL) is all set to begin from November 21. Five franchises are going to compete for the LPL 2020 title in the upcoming Sri Lanka based league. All five franchises- Jaffna Stallions, Dambulla Hawks, Kandy Tuskers, Colombo Kings and Galle Gladiators, set up their squads on Monday through an online draft. Some of the marquee players, who are seasoned T20 cricketers, have received bids from all the franchises for the LPL.
The star foreign players like Faf Du Plessis, Andre Russell, Chris Gayle, Carlos Brathwaite, Manpreet Gony, Manvinder Bisla, and Dawid Malan have earned bids from the franchises. Each LPL side has a choice to recruit two foreign players and one local marquee player. The rest of the players will receive payments as per the price determined by the category they were in going into the draft.
Nevertheless, the entire LPL draft was carried out in a very unorganized manner, with zero coordination between the organisers and stakeholders. There were also instances of selectors going off the video call with seeking continuous clarifications between the owners and Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC).
Meanwhile, all five franchises have picked 16 to 20 players. Few slots are left vacant purposely by the selectors in order to persuade the overseas player to play for their teams.
