Marcus Stoinis Hits First Fifty as Captain of Melbourne Stars in BBL 2024-25, Achieves 12,500 Career Runs in Style

Marcus Stoinis smashed his first fifty as the captain of the Melbourne Stars.

Melbourne Stars’ skipper Marcus Stoinis delivered a captain’s knock in Match 19 of the Big Bash League (BBL) 2024-25 against Brisbane Heat at the Gabba.

In a crucial match for his side, Stoinis smashed his 19th career half-century in BBL history, rescuing his team from a precarious position and guiding them to their first victory of the season after five consecutive losses.

Walking in with the score at 14/3, Stoinis absorbed the pressure and displayed his trademark composure. Partnering with Daniel Lawrence, the all-rounder anchored the innings and later shifted gears seamlessly.

Stoinis brought up his half-century off 37 deliveries, playing an array of elegant strokes. His innings included 10 well-timed boundaries.

Adding to his personal achievements, Stoinis also crossed the milestone of 12,500 career runs across all formats during the match.

Together with Lawrence, who scored a blistering unbeaten 64 off 38 balls, Stoinis built a crucial partnership that laid the foundation for Melbourne Stars to chase down Brisbane Heat’s total of 149.

Stoinis eventually fell for 62 off 48 balls in the 18th over, but his knock ensured the Stars crossed the finish line with 11 balls to spare, marking their first win of the season.

A Turning Point for Melbourne Stars

This victory came as a relief for the Stars, who had been struggling to find their rhythm in the tournament. Stoinis, often criticized for his lack of form earlier in the season, silenced his critics with a match-winning performance, proving why he is one of the most impactful players in the league.

For Brisbane Heat, it was their third loss in five matches despite Xavier Bartlett’s excellent four-wicket haul. Their inability to defend 149 highlighted gaps in their bowling performance, which Stoinis and Lawrence exploited beautifully.
