Massive Setback To England As Jofra Archer Ruled Out Of 2-Test Series Against New Zealand
The ECB on Sunday said Jofra Archer will miss the two-Test series against New Zealand in June due to pain in his elbow. Archer did not feature in the now-suspended IPL 2021.
England fast bowler Jofra Archer, who earlier ruled out of the IPL 2021 due to an elbow injury has now been ruled out of the two-Test series against New Zealand in June due to a flare-up of his right elbow injury.
Archer was getting treatment for a long-term elbow injury before heading to India to play a 4-Test series. He was ruled out of the now-suspended Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 and had surgery in March to remove a glass fragment from a tendon on his right hand, an injury he sustained in January in an attempt to clean his fish tank.
However, after the surgery and complete rest, the 26-year-old quick returned to action for Sussex in a drawn County Championship match against Kent at Hove this week. But the Barbados-born player bowled only five overs in the visitors’ second innings as he was again troubled by a long-standing injury in his bowling arm.

An England and Wales Cricket Board statement confirming Archer’s absence from the series against the Black Caps said he was “suffering from pain in his right elbow when bowling”.
“The England and Sussex medical teams will now seek guidance, and Archer will see a medical consultant later this week to determine the next course of action on the management of his elbow”, it added.
Archer featured in two of England’s four Tests and all five Twenty20 matches during their recent series in India before heading back to home for the surgery. Later, he also ruled out of the IPL 2021 due to the same cause and now it seems he won’t be available for the IPL 2021, if the tournament reschedules.
The first Test against New Zealand will be held at Lord’s from June 2-6 before the second game in Birmingham from June 10. The Black Caps will then head to play India in the final of the World Test Championship in Southampton from June 18.
