Mohammad Amir Wants to Join RCB! Chooses IPL Over PSL in Viral Interview

Mohammad Amir says he will choose IPL over PSL if given the chance, calling it a dream opportunity.

Former Pakistan pacer Mohammad Amir has made headlines once again, this time for his bold statement on preferring the Indian Premier League (IPL) over the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

Speaking on the Quetta Gladiators’ podcast, Amir was asked if both leagues happen during the same window in the future and he becomes eligible for the IPL as a British citizen, which one he would pick. Without hesitation, Amir replied,

“Honestly, if I get the opportunity, I’ll definitely play in the IPL. I’m saying this openly. But if I don’t get a chance, then I will play in the PSL.”

Amir, who has already retired from international cricket and currently plays for Quetta Gladiators, revealed that he will be eligible to play in the IPL by 2026. In an earlier interview on Geo News’ show ‘Haarna Mana Hai’, the 32-year-old expressed his desire to play in the world’s most popular T20 league.

“By next year, I will have the opportunity to play in the IPL, and if given the chance, then why not? I will play in the IPL,” he said.

The former left-arm pacer also mentioned that if selected, he would like to play for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). Backing Amir’s wish, Pakistan batter Ahmed Shehzad said on the same podcast that RCB could benefit from Amir’s experience.

“RCB needs a bowler like Amir to fix their bowling woes. They have a good batting unit, but their bowling has always been a problem. If Amir plays for RCB, they will win the title,” said Shehzad.

Due to political tensions between India and Pakistan, players from Pakistan have not been part of the IPL since 2008. The only exception has been Azhar Mahmood, who played as a UK citizen.

For now, Amir will be seen in action in the 10th edition of the Pakistan Super League, which begins on April 11. The opening match will see Islamabad United facing Lahore Qalandars at Rawalpindi. The month-long tournament will include 34 matches across four venues — Lahore, Rawalpindi, Karachi, and Multan.
