Mohammad Hafeez Reveals Azam Khan Ignored Fitness and Diet Plans Amidst T20 World Cup 2024
Mohammad Hafeez slammed Azam Khan for his poor fitness.
Former Pakistan manager Mohammad Hafeez has reignited controversy by criticizing wicketkeeper-batter Azam Khan’s fitness and commitment to international cricket.
Hafeez talked about Azam Khan’s lack of improvement despite being provided with a personalized fitness plan and opportunities in international matches.
“The entire Pakistan team completes a two-kilometer run in 10 minutes whereas Azam Khan struggles to finish it in 20 minutes,” Mohammad Hafeez said.
“Sadly, I don’t see the seriousness required from Azam Khan right now,” said the former Pakistan captain.
He clarified that body type isn’t the main concern; it’s the commitment to meeting essential fitness benchmarks.
“Being lean or muscular isn’t the issue,” Hafeez explained, “but you need to train according to the demands of the sport. You have to elevate your fitness to the required level.”
Hafeez revealed that Azam Khan was provided with a specific fitness plan during his tenure as manager, but the results haven’t been satisfactory.
“You’re chosen for your talent, but fitness demands a response. You’re the only player we’ve compromised on regarding fitness within the team.”
Azam Khan, son of former cricketer Moin Khan, hasn’t lived up to expectations in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024. He scored a duck in the opening match against the USA and was later dropped from the team against India.
In his entire T20I career spanning 13 innings, Azam Khan averages a meagre 8.80 with a strike rate of 133.33. His highest score is a lone 30 not out.
