Mohammad Rizwan, Iftikhar Ahmed, and Shadab Khan to Be Dropped from Pakistan’s T20I Team: Report
Pakistan failed to make it to the Super 8s in the T20 World Cup 2024.
Pakistan’s T20 World Cup 2024 campaign ended in disappointment as they crashed out after the group stage.
A shaky start for Men in Green with a Super Over defeat to USA followed by a loss to arch-rivals India proved costly to them. While they secured a win against Canada, it wasn’t enough to proceed in the Super 8s.
Meanwhile, the USA, with a better net run rate and more points, progressed to the Super 8s stage alongside India from Group A.
Following this dismal performance, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Mohsin Naqvi hinted at a significant team revamp. Now, reports suggest the axe could fall on seasoned campaigners Mohammad Rizwan, Iftikhar Ahmed, Shadab Khan, and Mohammad Amir.
Mohammad Rizwan has been criticized for prioritizing personal milestones over team success in certain situations.
Iftikhar Ahmed, on the other hand, has been a shadow of his former self, failing to replicate his best form throughout the tournament. These inconsistencies have put their places in the squad under serious question.
Babar Azam’s position, however, remains unclear. Recently reappointed as white-ball captain, his future leadership role is shrouded in uncertainty after a lackluster performance at the helm. It’ll be intriguing to see if the PCB retains him as skipper.
