MS Dhoni Not Coming Out of Retirement For Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy

MS Dhoni was keen to play the Syed Mushtaq Ali tournament earlier this year to prepare for IPL 2020 but the tournament got delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Former Indian captain MS Dhoni will not come out of retirement to play for Jharkhand in the upcoming Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy next year.

Dhoni took retirement from International Cricket on August 15 this year and played for Chennai Super Kings in the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League. But he will not be going to do the same for his state team in the domestic T20 tournament, starting from January 10, 2021.

During the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League, many speculations were being made regarding the former Indian captain’s future in the Indian Premier League, however, in the final game of the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL 2021, he himself cleared all the speculations and confirmed that he will play for CSK in the next edition of the Indian Premier League.

While speaking in the Toss for the final game of CSK, former New Zealand cricketer and commentator Danny Morrison asked Dhoni whether he would be donning the yellow jersey again or not before their final match, to which the skipper nonchalantly responded to the question and said ‘definitely not’ when asked if this was his last game for the franchise.

Chennai Super Kings had a tough journey in the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League. It was the first time in 13 tears that Chennai Super Kings hadn’t qualified for the playoffs despite playing the season. CSK finished 7th in the points table with just 6 wins in the 14 games.

Dhoni was, in fact, keen to play the Syed Mushtaq Ali tournament earlier this year to prepare for the upcoming edition of Indian Premier League but the Indian domestic season 2020-21 was postponed indefinitely in March due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Suresh Raina Will Represent Uttar Pradesh in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy

Suresh Raina, on the other hand, will be seen playing for Uttar Pradesh in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2021. He took to Social media last week to announce that he will represent Uttar Pradesh in the Indian domestic season 2020-21.

Raina took the retirement from International Cricket on the same day as Dhoni. He also didn’t play for CSK in the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League due to ‘personal reasons’.

Suresh Raina hasn’t played competitive cricket for the past one year but he has been training hard in the gym and keeping himself fit for the upcoming domestic season in India.
