‘MS Dhoni Not Retiring Anytime Soon’, CSK Official Confirms

A CSK official has confirmed that Dhoni has not told anyone about his retirement plans yet.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) fans were left heartbroken after their team’s IPL 2024 campaign ended with a narrow defeat to Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

The loss sparked speculation that this might be the last we see of legendary captain MS Dhoni on the field. However, there’s a sigh of relief for Dhoni devotees – a CSK official has revealed that Dhoni hasn’t decided on retirement yet.

According to a Times of India report, a senior CSK official feels a last-over ball change, after Dhoni smashed a massive six, might have tilted the match against RCB. This setback also meant Dhoni couldn’t fulfil his promise of lifting the IPL trophy at Chepauk.

The report further states that Dhoni returned to Ranchi right after the match, visibly disappointed with the outcome. But on the retirement front, there’s a twist. A source revealed that Dhoni hasn’t informed anyone about his plans and has requested the management for a few months before making a final call.

“Dhoni hasn’t told anybody in CSK that he is quitting. He has told the management that he will wait for a couple of months before taking a final call,” the source was quoted as saying.

The report adds that Dhoni’s comfort level with running between the wickets is a positive sign.

The controversial ‘Impact Player’ rule could also influence Dhoni’s decision. If the rule stays, it might give Dhoni a specific role within the team and encourage him to continue. However, if the rule is scrapped, it could make his return more challenging.
