Mujeeb, Naveen, Fazalhaq to Miss IPL 2024 After ACB Bans Them from Playing Franchise Cricket
Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) refuses to grant No Objection Certificates to Mujeeb-ur-Rahman, Fazalhaq Farooqi, and Naveen-ul-Haq for the next two years
Afghanistan players Mujeeb-ur-Rahman, Fazalhaq Farooqi, and Naveen-ul-Haq face uncertainty in the Indian Premier League as the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) refuses to grant No Objection Certificates (NOCs) for the next two years.
The decisions follow players’ requests to be relieved from their yearly central contracts, a stance perceived by the ACB as placing personal interests before national duties. The players’ engagement in commercial cricket leagues has fueled their desire for contractual release.
“The three players formally communicated their decision to the ACB, expressing their desire to release themselves from the annual central contract, starting from 1st January 2024, as well as requested to consider their consent for their participation in the national events,” a committee member was quoted as saying in a statement on Monday.

The 2024 IPL kicks off in March next year, and it looks like the Afghan players might be in a tight spot. While Mujeeb bagged a INR 2 crore deal with Kolkata Knight Riders recently, the likes of Naveen Ul Haq and Fazalhaq Farooqi were retained by Lucknow Super Giants and Sunrisers Hyderabad respectively.
