‘Need Drastic Changes in Team’ – Imad Wasim After Pakistan’s Elimination in T20 World Cup 2024

Pakistan failed to qualify for the Super 8s of T20 World Cup 2024.

Pakistan all-rounder Imad Wasim believes that significant changes are needed for the team to compete effectively against top-tier opponents in modern cricket.

Imad’s comments followed Pakistan’s elimination from the T20 World Cup 2024 after a disappointing performance. Pakistan lost to both the USA and their arch-rivals India early in the tournament.

The USA advanced to the Super 8 stage after their match against Ireland was abandoned due to rain on June 14. This result also eliminated Pakistan, last year’s runners-up led by Babar Azam, from the tournament.

Pakistan is set to play Ireland on Sunday, but the match is inconsequential as both teams have already been eliminated. They will be playing for pride.

In a pre-match conference, Imad Wasim responded to questions about the need for major changes in the team. The star all-rounder emphasized that Pakistan must adapt to the current style of T20 cricket, which is now dominated by high scores and power hitting.

Here’s what Imad Wasim said:

“There should be a drastic change so that we can move forward and fight with world cricket in the way that cricket is played now.”

Imad, who came out of retirement to participate in the T20 World Cup 2024, failed to make a significant impact with either bat or ball. However, the poor performance was a team-wide issue.

Reports suggest that the management is considering dropping Mohammad Rizwan, Iftikhar Ahmed, Shadab Khan, and Mohammad Amir from the T20 team after the tournament.
