‘No Chance’: Kyle Jamieson Replied As Virat Kohli Almost Tricked Him Into Revealing His Plans For WTC Final
Kyle Jamieson, who became IPL 2021's second most expensive buy after Chris Morris, was acquired by Royal Challengers Bangalore for Rs 15 crores.
New Zealand pacer Kyle Jamieson, who is currently playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL), turned down Virat Kohli’s request to bowl with the Dukes ball in nets during one of their practice sessions earlier in the tournament.
What is Duke Ball?
The duke ball is usually used in England and has the reputation of swinging more which makes life difficult for all batsmen. Last year Kyle Jamieson had troubled Kohli in Test cricket which is why the Indian captain wanted to fine-tune his skills in the nets against him.
Jamieson, who recently appeared on the YouTube channel ‘The Grade Cricketer’ with fellow RCB teammate Dan Christian, revealed that Virat Kohli asked him to bowl with the Dukes ball in the nets, a request he eventually turned down. Jamieson said there was no chance he was going to bowl to Kohli before the World Test Championship final.
“Pretty cagey from Virat actually, right in the first week we were here. The three of us were sitting down after the nets and these two were talking about Test cricket. Virat said: ‘So Jamie (Kyle Jamieson) have you bowled much with the Dukes ball?’ and they are talking about that stuff.
Jamie says: ‘Yeah, I have a couple of them here, I will have a bowl leading in before I go over there’ and Virat says ‘Oh, if you want to have a bowl against me in the nets, I am more than happy to fashion’. Jamie was like, ‘No chance I am going to ball at you!’ He would have looked at his release point and everything that he does with the Dukes ball! (chuckles),” Dan Chrisitan said on The Grade Cricketer’s YouTube channel.
You Don’t See Virat Kohli A Lot Off The Field – Dan Christian
Christian shared another anecdote involving Kohli. He also revealed that Virat attends only half of the team’s off-field meet-ups. He added that other RCB superstars, AB de Villiers and Glenn Maxwell, are less reserved and more involved with the rest of the players.
Christian particularly lavished praise on de Villiers, calling him the happiest and most humble figure in the setup.
“You don’t see Virat a lot off the field, you see a little bit. He will maybe come to half of the things but he has his family here too from the start so we might see more of him now. So AB (de Villiers) is the happiest, most humble… never got a bad word to say about anybody, will be there from start to finish. Maxi (Glenn Maxwell) is there from start to finish as well,” said Dan Christian.
The Challengers are currently sitting at the second spot in he points table with 10 points to their name. RCB has lost just one match in the tournament so far, against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Mumbai.
The Virat Kohli-led team is on the path to qualify for the playoffs this season and fans would be hoping to see them finish the cash-rich league with a maiden IPL trophy. RCB will face bottom-ranked Punjab Kings (PBKS) in their next encounter on Friday, April 30.
