No More Ajinkya Rahane in Tests for India, KL Rahul to be Added As Back-Up Wicket-Keeper – Report
Team India is looking to build a strong team around youngsters.
Team India has opted to look beyond Ajinkya Rahane in Test cricket, focusing on nurturing and grooming young talents to build a team for the long term.
“The selection committee is very clear that it wants to groom players who will play together for a longer period of time. With Shreyas Iyer coming back into Test reckoning and Shubman Gill batting at No. 3, there is little scope for Rahane,” a source revealed to TOI.
Furthermore, KL Rahul is being evaluated by selectors as a potential backup wicketkeeper for Test cricket. His impressive track record in overseas matches and adept technique in the format are key factors under consideration.
“KL Rahul too could be considered for the test matches as he could be a backup wicket-keeping option,” the source further added.
