Pakistan Drops Hasan Ali from T20I Squad Against England

Hasan Ali was initially added to Pakistan squad as Haris Rauf’s backup.

Pakistan’s pace attack for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 has seen a change, with Hasan Ali being released from the squad ahead of the first T20 International against England in Leeds.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced the decision on Wednesday, stating that senior pacer Haris Rauf’s return to match fitness necessitated the change.

With Rauf available, Hasan Ali, who was initially selected as cover due to Haris Rauf’s groin injury, has been released to fulfil his commitments in English County cricket.

Hasan’s performance in Ireland, where he featured in one T20I, wasn’t ideal. The Pakistan squad currently in England will continue their tour, travelling to the USA and West Indies for the World T20 Cup.

Notably, Pakistan is the only team yet to announce its final 15-member squad for the tournament.

However, reports suggest that batters Agha Ali Salman and Irfan Niazi, who are part of the touring party in England, are likely to be named as travelling reserves for the World Cup.

This four-match T20 series against England marks the last T20 commitment for both teams before the World Cup. Notably, England players who participated in the IPL have rejoined the squad for this series.
