Pakistan Knocked Out of T20 World Cup 2024 as USA Advances to Super 8s After Ireland Match Washout

Pakistan have been knocked out of the T20 World Cup 2024.

Pakistan has officially been knocked out of the T20 World Cup 2024 after the match between Ireland and USA was washed out at Florida on Friday, June 14.

Babar Azam’s men needed Ireland to pull off an upset victory against the USA to keep their qualification hopes alive.

However, the weather played a decisive role, leaving Pakistan with a maximum of four points even if they win their remaining match against Ireland.

Pakistan’s campaign started on a disappointing note, with a surprising defeat to USA in the opening encounter. Their struggles continued as they fell to arch-rivals India in the next match.

These losses proved too much to overcome, especially considering USA’s impressive run in the tournament.

On the other hand, USA scripted history by becoming the first team to reach the Super 8 stage in their debut T20 World Cup appearance.

Their journey has been nothing short of remarkable, defeating a strong Pakistan side in a nail-biting Super Over and giving India a good run for their money.

This marks the seventh time an associate team has defied the odds and progressed beyond the group stage in the T20 World Cup.

USA joins the ranks of Ireland (2009), Netherlands (2014 & 2022), Afghanistan (2016), Namibia (2021), and Scotland (2021) in achieving this feat.
