PCB Chief Zaka Ashraf Calls for Gandhi-Jinnah Trophy to Revive India-Pakistan Bilateral Cricket Rivalry
Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board suggested bilateral series between India and Pakistan
The Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Zaka Ashraf, has proposed a Jinnah-Gandhi trophy to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
Notably, India and Pakistan have not played bilateral cricket since 2014 due to political tensions between the two nations.
Both teams face each other only in ICC events and the Asia Cup. Speaking with ARY News, Zaka revealed his determination to mend cricketing relations between the two countries:
“I suggested to the BCCI to organise a Jinnah-Gandhi trophy as no contest is bigger than Pakistan vs India.”
Meanwhile, he also questioned India’s stance on not playing in Pakistan, especially when Australia, England, and other nations have visited the country recently.
The last bilateral series between India and Pakistan took place in 2012-13, during which Pakistan visited its neighbouring country for three ODI matches and two T20Is.
Meanwhile, Pakistan are in India for the upcoming ICC World Cup 2023. They will kick off their campaign on October 6 against the Netherlands in Hyderabad.
The much-anticipated India vs Pakistan clash in ICC World Cup 2023 is set to be played on October 14 at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.
