Babar Azam shares his expectations of playing in Lahore

Former Pakistan captain, Babar Azam, reflected on the surreal experience of hearing his name chanted loudly by the crowd at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, recalling his humble beginnings as a ball picker at the same venue.

Peshawar Zalmi, led by Babar Azam, began their PSL 2024 campaign with a defeat of 16 runs against Quetta Gladiators at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore. Babar Azam’s brilliant fifty couldn’t steer his team to victory.

Leading Peshawar Zalmi in the Pakistan Super League, Babar Azam, a Lahore native, experiences a flood of memories every time he graces the turf at Gaddafi Stadium, where he honed his skills during his early days.

Here’s what Babar Azam said in the post-match conference:

“I used to be a ball-picker at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore when I was quite young, whenever I play here and when I hear crowd chanting my name – it gives me goosebumps and it feels surreal. It is my home ground and fans love our players here.”

Babar Azam, who scored 68 runs from 42 balls against the Gladiators recently has now become the first player in the history of the Pakistan Super League to complete 3000 runs.
