PSL 2025: Karachi Kings Appoint David Warner as Captain, Sack Shan Masood

David Warner has been appointed as the captain of Karachi Kings.

Australian star David Warner has been appointed as the team’s new captain for the upcoming Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025 season. The tournament begins on April 11, and Warner was picked by Karachi Kings for USD 300,000, making him the most expensive player in PSL draft history. With his vast experience and aggressive batting style, the team is expecting a strong performance under his leadership.

Warner has led teams in different leagues, including the Big Bash League (BBL), and has won both the ODI and T20 World Cups. Karachi Kings selected him in the Platinum category during the PSL 10 Players Draft, held on January 13 in Lahore. The franchise also thanked former captain Shan Masood for his contributions last season. His removal as captain was a surprising decision, but the management believes Warner’s leadership will give the team a fresh approach.

Warner’s move to PSL comes after he went unsold in the IPL 2025 mega auction. Despite being released by Delhi Capitals, no IPL team bid for him, even at his base price of ₹2 crore. However, Karachi Kings quickly secured him, recognizing his value. Warner, who has won major titles like the 2016 IPL with Sunrisers Hyderabad and the 2023 World Test Championship with Australia, will now aim to guide Karachi Kings to PSL glory.
